Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Cass County Criminal History, the reasons it may be used, and the circumstances in which service providers may receive it. Continued use of the website indicates acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A query entered in a search box is transmitted to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the terms and supplies its result. Cass County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own system.

Messages and Contact Submissions

A message sent directly to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Normal server and analytics functions may collect technical details as pages load:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • Internet Protocol address
  • Referring site, when supplied
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic and site use. Analytics can show which pages are visited and where sessions end. A browser can reject cookies, though blocking them may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

Collected technical or submitted data may be used for these limited purposes:

  • Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
  • Maintaining site availability, security, and speed
  • Understanding which pages visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
  • Routing a search to the service provider selected by the user

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Cass County Criminal History does not maintain, sell, or compile a database of personal criminal-history records. It publishes general directions to sources such as Cass County courts, the Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police CJIC, MDOC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools falls under that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Those practices are outside our control, so users should read the partner policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Cass County offices, Michigan agencies, court portals, legal resources, registry pages, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's policy governs. Advertising providers may also use their own systems to measure activity across websites.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal information is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Search partners that receive a query a visitor chooses to run
  • Advertising networks that deliver advertisements
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect collected information. No internet system can be guaranteed immune from unauthorized access, so absolute security cannot be promised.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly seek personal information from a person under 18. Information known to have been submitted by a minor will be removed when identified.

Your Data Rights

Applicable Michigan and federal law may provide rights concerning personal data. Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq., governs requests to public bodies, while MCL 28.242 addresses state criminal-history collection and authorized access. Those government-record laws do not make this private site a public records custodian. For data held by us, a person may request the following where the law applies:

  • A copy of personal information held about that person
  • Correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Deletion of eligible personal information
  • An opt-out from certain processing when available

Updates to This Policy

Revisions may be posted on this page. A new effective date will identify the current version, and continued use after posting is subject to that version.
